DREAMING ABOUT VISITING THE NATIONAL PARKS!

Is there a national park site in your backyard? Well, we are super lucky and have one ten minutes away from our home – Guilford Courthouse National Military Park. We have enjoyed coming to this park since we moved to Greensboro in 2013, and there is so much to do in and around the park. There are tons of trails and monuments within the park as well as a two mile loop around the park. Guilford Courthouse National Military Park commemorates the Battle of Guilford Courthouse, which was fought on March 15, 1781.

After reading some other blogs, including Go the Adventure Way, we were informed about the National Parks Passport Program. We purchased the Junior Ranger Passport for kids at the visitor center as well as picking up the junior ranger booklet, and we began our adventures to get cancellation and junior ranger stamps! The book is super cute and colorful, and the kids really enjoy looking through it. While at the visitor center, make sure to check out the exhibit that shows uniforms, weapons, and other great information from the Revolutionary War time period.

Once we completed the booklets, we went back to the Visitors Center to receive the girls’ stamps and badges. They had to say a pledge with the Park Ranger, and it was the highlight of their week.

Currently, there are 419 units managed by the National Park Service so there is a lot out there to see including National Battlegrounds, Military Parks, Lakeshores, Historical Sites, and much more! We are looking forward to checking off as many of these as possible during our travels. While we are all dreaming about visiting the national parks from home, Google Earth is offering virtual tours of some of our National Parks! We can not wait to see some of the other magnificent parks in person, but for now, virtual tours will do!

We hope you enjoyed hearing about our visit to Guilford Courthouse National Military Park as well as checking out the virtual tours! What is your favorite National Park Site? Thank you for wandering along with us, and stay safe!
