VISITING 40 PHOTO SPOTS ON THE GRAND TOUR OF SWITZERLAND

Wow, I can’t believe I’m actually typing this but we have made it to 40 Grand Tour of Switzerland Photo Spots! We moved to Switzerland in October 2020, and since then we have been stopping along the Grand Tour of Switzerland as often as possible in order to see all of the great sights that Switzerland has to offer. Are you wondering how we ended up visiting 40 photo spots on the Grand Tour of Switzerland?

Well, we have used a lot of the very efficient Swiss public transportation! I have spent many hours planning perfect routes in order to optimize the amount of photo spots that can be seen. The girls have whined and whined about seeing yet another beautiful Swiss mountain. We have scratched our heads trying to find the exact location of the sign. Unfortunately, some are never as easy to find as you think they will be! But, we cannot thank My Switzerland enough for giving us this excuse to see so much of the incredible country that we now call home.

So, are you wondering if we’re done finding them now? NOPE! Our goal is to visit all 59 of the signs by the end of the 2nd year here (or October 14, 2022). To Gregg’s dismay, I have planned day trips or overnight trips each month until October in order to attain this goal. And, I cannot wait to see more of Switzerland’s beauty.

While reminiscing about all of the great memories that these photo spots have given our family, I decided to add my top five photo spots into this blog post. I’m sure that these will change in the future, but these are the ones that currently stand out on my personal leaderboard.

5. Rheinfall – This was our first photo spot as a family, and it was our first time venturing outside of Basel. These beautiful waterfalls are approximately 15,000 years old, and it is Europe’s largest waterfall. We visited on a beautiful fall day, and we truly had the best time.

4. Niesen – Niesen was the first mountain we visited back in 2020, and I will never forget the first glimpse we saw once we hopped off the funicular. It took our breath away, and it helped us remember that we had made the right decision to move to this incredible country and have these experiences.

3. Bellinzona – The beautiful castles of Bellinzona are just incredible. On this visit, we only visited one, but we are looking forward to returning at some point to explore the others. Bellinzona is located in one of our favorites cantons of Switzerland, Ticino. Ticino is the Italian region, and we all love this region.

2. Giessbach Falls – Our experience at Giessbach was incredible from start to finish. From the ferry along Lake Brienz to our accommodation at the Grandhotel Giessbach, we had an epic experience. The waterfall was absolutely beautiful.

1. Matterhorn – What else is there to say other than it’s the Matterhorn?? The Matterhorn is an iconic mountain in the Swiss Alps that is portrayed all over Swiss products (Toblerone anyone??). It is known for its almost perfect pyramid shape, and it is spectacular to see in person! There are two photo spots that highlight this epic mountain so I’m grouping both together for the number one spot.
