SLEEPING IN A POD IN THE SWISS ALPS!

Over winter break, our family decided to try out something new (for us)! We wanted to experience the snowy Alps, as well as enjoy time together as a family. So, what did we do?? We stayed at the Whitepod Eco-Luxury Hotel, and sleeping in a pod in the Swiss Alps may be our new favorite experience!

Visiting Whitepod was one of the most unique and enjoyable trips we’ve ever had. The main goal of Whitepod is to show their guests that luxury and nature can coincide and we think that they did a great job conveying this. Every single detail was well-thought out. From providing our dog with a water bowl, toys, and a mat, to one of the employees checking each night that our heater was working correctly, we really felt that we were enjoying luxury while still experiencing the amazing nature around us.

So, what is a pod? Well, a pod is a geodetic shape, which is a sphere made only of triangles. It also provides a framework that is self-supporting. And now you may be wondering – how is this luxurious? Well, we had the most amazing view, a comfortable king-size bed, two beds in the loft for the girls to enjoy, an automatic pellet stove, delicious breakfast included, a big bathroom, and so much more! Basically, we were glamping in the most beautiful place!

And, what did we do with our time there? SO MUCH! The girls went ice skating, we all attempted an outdoor escape game (Save Heidi), we all went sledding, and we all enjoyed some winter hiking! We also enjoyed time together at meals and played fun games.

It is important to note that it is a 20-minute walk from the parking area/registration/restaurant to the pods. The first half is roads on an incline, and then there is some snow walking, which can be very slippery. Whitepod does offer snow shoes to make the walking on the snow more enjoyable! Also, there is an enclosed snowmobile car that can bring up your luggage if necessary, and we definitely opted for this service!

We also thought that Whitepod did a great job with Covid precautions. Everyone wore masks, social distanced, and there were sanitizer stations everywhere! Read more about Covid precautions in hotels that we experienced this past summer.

As far as the food, each morning the pod house, which is right in the middle of the pods, offers a delicious selection of meats, breads, cheeses, and other seasonal items. Our dinner at the on-site restaurant might have been one of the best meals that I’ve ever had. I am still dreaming about the black angus beef that was literally falling apart, in addition to the delicious polenta emulsion that came with it.

Overall, we had an exceptional time and we would definitely recommend visiting Whitepod to anyone! We absolutely loved the family time, unique experience, and beautiful views! Would you ever stay in a pod? Thank you so much for wandering along with us!
