SNOW MUCH FUN ON MT RIGI!

This past weekend we went up to Mt Rigi to have snow much fun! During our time in the winter wonderland of Switzerland, we would like to check out as many snowy areas as possible. So far, we have been skiing in Grindelwald. The mountains and views are just beautiful, so we were excited to enjoy Mt. Rigi. It was quite the journey up, but the ride to Rigi Kaltbad was half the fun. We took a train to Luzern, a boat to Vitznau, and a cogwheel train to Rigi Kaltbad. Mt. Rigi Railways is actually celebrating their 150th anniversary this year!

Throughout our ride on the cogwheel train, we encountered little snow and lots of fog, more snow and less fog, and finally, lots of snow and blue skies. We were all so excited to see beautiful blue skies when we reached our stop.

So you’re probably wondering? What was snow much fun?? Well, we reserved a HORSE-DRAWN SLEIGH RIDE, and it was truly magical. It was extremely cold, but they layered us in comfy, warm blankets! We had two horses pulling the sleigh, and they had bells on them… Does it get any better or more idyllic?? Our ride lasted an hour, and we booked it through Rigi’s website (Thank you for the amazing recommendation, Karena).

During our sleigh ride, the horses walked along a mountainside trail with incredible views. We could see the layer of puffy clouds with the mountain peaks coming out. It was an amazing experience, despite the kids bickering from time to time.

While visiting the mountain in the winter, there are so many great activities available. Some of these include skiing, snowboarding, sledding, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and winter hiking! We walked around after our sleigh ride and found a few playgrounds, an adorable ski village, an ice rink that the girls walked around on, and some delicious take-away food options.

When our day was complete, we headed to the cable car and took it to Weggis, which is another lake-side village, and then took the boat back to Luzern. It was nice to have another transportation option down the mountain, and it only took ten minutes.

Do you enjoy winter activities? If so, what is your favorite? Thank you for wandering along with us!
