SAY CHEESE!
Switzerland is known for cheese! Swiss cheese anyone? So, we knew that we wanted to experience the Swiss way of cheesemaking during our time here! We decided to say cheese at Emmentaler Schaukäseri.
Emmentaler cheese originated in the canton of Bern, and it is named after the region where it is made. Cheesemakers started producing this cheese hundreds of years ago!
There are a few ways to tour the show dairy including a farm tour, guided tour, or the King’s Way. We chose the King’s Way, and we are so happy to have picked this route! The King’s Way is an audiovisual tour that is extremely kid-friendly. Three characters (a mouse, a lady, and a cow) walk you through the production process of Emmentaler AOP, as well as teach about the Emmentaler brand.
Once the tour is complete, you are taken into an area to watch the actual production of the cheese. You can also watch from the gift shop that looks down through the glass ceiling. The gift shop has tons of delicious cheese to purchase, as well as other fun items.
When you’re done in the gift shop, there’s a great playground outside, a delicious bakery, and a petting zoo, which we missed. The girls really loved their time on the cheese-themed playground. There’s even a cheese-themed trampoline.
After enjoying some playtime, we took a ten-minute walk up the hill to check out the Grand Tour photo spot overlooking the Emme valley. There was still a little bit of snow on the ground, and it was such a beautiful view.
We had a blast on our day trip to Emmental Schaukäserei, and we learned a lot about cheese! Check out our newest Youtube video to see more!
Will you be headed straight for this delicious stop? Thank you for wandering along with us!
