Kid-Friendly Stops in graubünden
Have you ever been to the canton of Graubünden? Well, it is a canton in Eastern Switzerland, and the Alpine landscape is truly breathtaking. We were lucky enough to enjoy a two-night road trip to this beautiful canton in June, and we enjoyed a lot of kid-friendly stops in Graubünden along our route!
Before I tell you what we were able to do, I’m going to list some of the places that we did not get to see! We cannot wait to return to experience more of what Graubünden has to offer! Some of the places on our list include the Bernina Express, the Glacier Express, St. Moritz-Celerina Bobsled run, Swiss National Park, and Scoul.
Okay, now back to what we did during our time in Graubünden! Our five kid-friendly activities included:
- Explore Heididorf – The holiday region, nicknamed Heidland, has been associated with Heidi since Johanna Spyri published her world-famous book! Heididorf is located in Maienfeld, and the views of Heidiland are incredible! It was 39.90 CHF for the family to gain entrance into the buildings. During our time there, we saw Heidi’s house, the alp hut, schoolhouse, barn, and more.
2. Stop at the Davosersee for lunch – On our way from Heididorf to St. Moritz, we drove by the Davosersee and decided to stop to take a look around. Isn’t that what road trips are all about? Once we were at the lake, we enjoyed a delicious lunch at Bachi’s Strandbad Davos with gorgeous views. For the kids, there was a great kids’ menu, a large lawn to run around on, a trampoline, and a playhouse.
3. Drive over a Mountain Pass -During our road trip, we were lucky enough to drive over two mountain passes (Flüela and Julier), and we highly recommend these gorgeous drives! While we drove over Flüela Pass, we pulled over and the kids played with the snow. Snow during the summer will always be a hit with children!
4. Hike down a mountain in St. Moritz – Notice how I did not write hike up a mountain? Hiking down a mountain is much more kid-friendly than hiking up! We decided on the easy route, which the kids loved, and we took the gondola from St. Moritz Bad up to Signal. Once we reached the top, we walked about 0.75 miles (1.2 km) to the playground by Heidi’s Hut . The girls played for about 20 minutes while Gregg and I took in the views. Afterwards, we continued our hike down. The hike lasted about 3.5 miles, and we only had mild complaining, which I’d call a win!
5. Visit the Grand Tour Photo spots in Graubünden – And last but not least, we visited six of the Grand Tour photo spots during the road trip. If you’re new to the blog, we are huge fans of these photo spots. The Grand Tour is a route through Switzerland that includes many of the top sights in the country. There are fifty-six photo spots along this route, and we have seen thirty-three of them! During this trip, we visited the signs of Heidihaus, Davos Klosters, La Punt, Engadin St. Moritz, Bernina Glaciers, and Viamala Schlucht. So, how is this kid-friendly? Well, the kids love finding these spots and they usually run up to them as soon as one comes into sight.
