THE BILTMORE AT CHRISTMAS!
Our holidays were definitely a whirlwind this year! To give you a quick overview, we went to the Asheville area on the 23rd, drove to Charleston on the 25th, and returned home to Greensboro the night of the 27th. We had a great time even though we were all over the place! During our time at the Biltmore, we visited the estate, Stable Cafe, and winery, and they were all kid friendly.
We started off our adventure at the estate! The Biltmore Estate is the largest privately owned home in the United States. It was built from 1889 to 1895 for George Vanderbilt, and it is still owned by the descendants of Vanderbilt. This mansion has 250 rooms including 43 bathrooms and 35 bedrooms. It is magnificent, especially during Christmas. During the 2019 season, there were 62 hand decorated trees within the home. It is truly worth the visit just to see these beautifully adorned trees.
The home was spectacular, and the girls did great during the self-guided tour. Although, they were starting to get antsy near the end. If you decide on the audio tour, there is a childrens’ version that is narrated by the Vanderbilt family dog. We opted against this idea, but I’ve heard great things about it! I think everyone’s favorite part of the tour was seeing the gingerbread version of the Biltmore. It was amazing and looked just like it!
After we finished touring the house, we headed to lunch at the Stable Cafe. This was once the estate’s stable, and the stalls now have booths inside! My horse loving child really enjoyed eating in a transformed stable, and we all enjoyed the food. The cafe also gave the girls a coloring book and crayons to keep them busy!
There is also a winery on property, Biltmore Estate Winery, that offers free complimentary tastings. Kids are not allowed to stand at the bar but they can be at the side wall. The adults really enjoyed the wine, and the kids loved the grape juice. It was a great way to end our day at the Biltmore.
We hope you enjoyed reading about our time at the Biltmore! Have you been to this spectacular estate? Thank you for wandering along with us!
